For sale is our widebeam narrowboat Zulu. Built by Liverpool boats in 2006, she is 60′ long x 12′ wide, of the ‘Square Decker’ style, with a large rear cruiser stern deck and fixed seating area.
10 6 5mm construction, spray foam insulated. Isuzu 70hp engine with 1250 hours run time, fitted with twin alternators, serviced every spring. She is very heavily ballasted and sits deep in the water, weighing in at nearly 30 tons, making her much faster and easier to handle than more lightweight boats and less affected by wind.
Full hull survey carried out in Nov 2017, with absolutely no wear shown to the hull at all. She has a galvanic isolator fitted. The hull was coated in 3 coats of bitumen and the anodes were renewed at the same time. She wont need to come out of the water again until 2021. BSC is until May 2020.
My wife and I have lived on this boat since it was new in 2006 and have loved every minute of that time, but now we find it is time to move on, we have now bought a house and she reluctantly has to go. She is set up as a very high spec, very comfortable liveaboard boat. We are non smokers and nobody has ever smoked on the boat. She has a spare bedroom, well equipped full size bathroom, master bedroom, lounge and kitchen. Because she is 12 foot wide all rooms are very large and full size furniture fits, rather than 3/4 size boat furniture.
The corridor is also over 600 mm wide, so all standard items fit through it. She has 2 swan hatches. There are absolutely loads of 240v sockets. All of the appliances are staying as we no longer need them, most of which are less than a year old. The heating is by a 240v Kabola HR400 pressure jet diesel boiler, Kabola is the best you can get in marine heating, unlike the more unreliable 12v boat heaters seen on most narrow boats.
Heating and hot water is controlled via a house style domestic Danfoss thermostat, which sets temperature and has a 7 day timer facility, so its nice and warm in the boat when you get up, no trying to light a fire first thing in the morning! The heating system is superb, with 4 x1200 mm K2 double rads in the saloon and master bedrooms, plus 2 towel rails in the bathroom.
The WC is a Jabsco 12v electric sea toilet. The shower is a full size 760mm enclosure with whale gulper pump and thermostatic shower which runs at 30 psi (really good shower!). She has a gas double oven, countertop fridge, slimline dishwasher and a full size washer dryer, The log burner is a top loading Godin Petit Rond, 5kw, which can heat the boat to 30 degrees if you really want it to, even if its well below freezing outside.
Currently moored at the Fish and Duck marina, just outside Cambridge.
Permanent moorings are transferable subject to agreement with the Marina, but they may not necessarily be the mooring the boat sits on now, as it currently sits on a bankside mooring in a prime spot. It will be another bankside mooring though. The boat will be on the marina brokerage in the next few days and viewings will be arranged through the marina management. The marina supplies all facilities, reliable 16 amp 240v power, water, gas, diesel, BT broadband is available via land lines but final connection is down to each user. Mooring fees are payable to the marina by monthly direct debit. Fish and Duck marina contact number is 01353 648081

Her hull has been regularly treated with black tar varnish. Her last internal survey was 2015 which showed her to be in excellent condition.
We are really lucky because her moorings have a very large grassed outside space (100 foot length) with bicycle and log shed. Mains electricity and a water tap, plus parking, all within close proximity of the barge. The neighbours are super friendly and welcoming.
She is moored opposite a nature reserve, with multiple cycle routes nearby, minutes away from the beach and the world class golf course The St George hosting the 149th Masters Open in 2020.
Outside the window Seals, Swallows, Kingfishers, Ducks, Herons and Cormorants reguarly pass by.
The river is tidal but the water never gets that low therefore, unlike other boats, we have never suffered from any bad smells or flies. She is a beauitful, comfortable warm home full of light and wonderful views.
She is moored in the centre of Sandwich Town. Sandwich is one of the best preserved medieval towns in England full of stunning parks, lots of dinky shops, pubs and restaurants. The town hosts numerous brilliant festivals during the summer; folk and beer festival, medievel festival, french festival, art festival, Summer Prom, the list goes on….
Her moorings are paid bi-annually. We have paid her up until September 30th. It works out at approximately £450 per month which is cheap for a boat of her length. There is no council tax or television license fee.

Metana is a beautiful 41-foot Naval Pinnace, built in 1938 and decommissioned in 1945.
This type of boat has a long heritage: Originally developed in the 1600’s, pinnaces were used for light naval duties until the mid-twentieth century. The name developed from the old Spanish word for pine tree.
This is a project boat in need of some sympathetic repair work and refitting. She has an elegant outline, with the potential to make a comfortable houseboat or pleasure boat.
She has had some sympathetic repair work done, but needs more. I’ll be sad to part with her, but have concluded that I don’t have the skills to give her the makeover she deserves (especially as I have a new job in London which makes it hard to get up to Gloucester and work on her).
Small forward cabin with toilet and shower in small corner compartments
Enclosed wheelhouse: this is a bright, pleasant space, perfect for airy dinners in the spring and summer
Spacious aft cabin with kitchen and bed.
Hull: Wood sheathed with GRP (fibreglass). Mahogany and oak replacement frames, with larch deck beams and pine stringers.
Iron ballast keel
Deck and superstructure: wood, mostly coated in GRP (fibreglass).
Radiator heating system and electricity (AC 220/240 volt shore power and DC electric) system installed and working.
She is currently moored in Sharpness (about 30 minutes’ drive from Bristol and Gloucester).
Please message me by phone to arrange a viewing,
Survey February 2017 (please message me if you’d like to see it).
She has undergone some repair work in March 2018:

Hull scraped down and additional GRP coating
Fuel tanks flushed, cleaned and polished
Dried out with dehumidifier
